National Literacy Trust’s ‘Refugee and Migrant’ Stories book list

NWUPC recently met with Brown’s Books, a supplier on the Books, e-books and e-textbooks framework, and we wanted to bring to light some great work they are doing in regards to the current situation in Ukraine. With over 2.5 million people having now fled Ukraine because of the ongoing war, it is clear for all to see, that there is a huge opportunity for all of us to help those in need where we can, and we hope that you will consider donating your extra savings to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) appeal for Ukraine. Liaising with local foodbanks in their area Browns Books are providing books that will help Ukrainian refugee children learn English, as well as providing books in their native tongue for the children to read and enjoy. Browns Books are offering discounts of up to 40% on the National Literacy Trust’s ‘Refugee and Migrant’ Stories book list for 5–12 Year Olds and Browns Books ‘Refugee and Migrants’ Collection for 12+.

These significant collections illustrate events that no one should have to experience in real life, but unfortunately are still happening today. If you wish to donate please make your way to the DEC website to find out more information.

Webinar from Brown Books:

Earlier this year NWUPC Ltd members were invited to a free webinar from Browns Books, suppliers on 2 library frameworks with NWUPC.

Libraries Category Group Members were enquiring how the recent changes in strategic direction would impact those members utilising either Askews or Browns, now that that the latter are taking the lead with Academic Library Sales, whilst their sister company focuses on the public library arena. The webinar hosted by Browns Books went through the changes, and the impact, but more importantly the benefits and opportunities that are now available. This webinar included:

  • An overview of the company
  • the changes Browns have gone through during COVID-19 and how they effect members
  • the options open to our members that are either Browns and/or Askews customers
  • Q&A at the end

Hosted by Claire Smith, Framework Manager for Browns Books for this contract you can contact Claire or Stephen Mitchell and Susan May from Browns Books with any further questions.
