The University of Manchester achieved great success by winning the Environmental Services Waste Prevention award at the Manchester Evening News Environment Awards on Thursday 9^th October 2014.

In partnership with Manchester City Council, British Heart Foundation,Manchester Student Homes and MMU, we encourage students leaving halls and student houses off-campus to donate their unwanted items to charities who could benefit from them instead of dumping them into landfill. The scheme has been running since 2009 and has grown from strength to strength.

We’ve previously featured an article on Premier Paper’s Carbon Capture programme in partnership with the Woodland Trust.  Through the programme customers are given the opportunity to capture the co2 generated as a result of their paper purchases and offset this by planting trees through the Woodland Trust.

It’s therefore wonderful to be able to report that the scheme is working very well and has seen some tangible results.  On 27^th November 2014 Premier Paper embarked on a huge task of planting more than 3,000 trees at Heartwood Forest in Hertfordshire.  The Trust is aiming to double the current woodland coverage of the UK which stands at 13% through schemes such as this one.
